Motor Mechanic / Automotive Technician – Christchurch

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
Pay Rate: $30 – $38 per hour, depending on experience and skills
Hours: 30–55 hours per week

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Motor Mechanic to join our team in Christchurch. The successful applicant will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining and repairing light motor vehicles and ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in vehicle engines and components.
• Inspect, test and diagnose vehicle faults using diagnostic equipment and computer-based systems.
• Dismantle and remove engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, braking systems and other mechanical components as required.
• Repair or replace worn, damaged or defective parts and reassemble mechanical components.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups and general vehicle servicing.
• Repair and maintain vehicle engines, transmissions, steering systems, suspension systems and brakes.
• Reassemble engines and other vehicle components after repairs.
• Test and adjust repaired mechanical components to ensure correct operation and performance.
• Refer to technical manuals, manufacturer specifications and diagnostic information when carrying out repairs.
• Identify additional repair or maintenance work required and report findings appropriately.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.

Requirements

• Relevant automotive mechanical qualification OR
• At least 1-year relevant work experience.
