We are a New Zealand-based contractor with its head office located in Auckland, specialising in mining, quarrying and civil construction projects across New Zealand. The company provides earthmoving, site preparation, material extraction and infrastructure development services using a fleet of heavy machinery.

Due to continued project growth and ongoing operational requirements, the company is seeking 2 permanent full-time Excavator Operators (minimum 30 hours guaranteed per week, Monday to Saturday, depending on project requirements) to support its ongoing mining and quarry operations.

The successful applicants will operate heavy earthmoving machinery to carry out excavation and material handling tasks safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities Include:

· Operate excavators and other heavy earthmoving machinery independently across mining, quarrying and civil construction projects

· Perform bulk excavation, trenching, grading, site preparation and earthworks according to project specifications and site requirements

· Remove overburden and extract soil, rock, minerals or aggregate materials safely and efficiently

· Load haul trucks, manage stockpiles and transport materials within the work site while maintaining productivity targets

· Read and follow site plans, levels, survey markings and operational instructions to ensure accuracy of excavation work

· Monitor ground conditions, excavation stability and environmental factors, adjusting operating techniques to minimise risk

· Conduct pre-start checks, daily inspections and routine servicing to ensure machinery remains in safe working condition

· Identify mechanical faults, equipment damage or safety hazards and report issues promptly to supervisors or maintenance personnel

· Perform minor maintenance, cleaning and lubrication of machinery to maintain operational readiness

· Comply with all workplace health, safety and environmental policies, including hazard identification and risk control procedures

· Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers, surveyors and other plant operators to coordinate site activities

· Maintain operational records such as machine hours, fuel usage, work completed and equipment status where required

· Assist with site establishment, relocation and general duties consistent with the role of a skilled plant operator

To be successful you will need to have:

· At least 3 years of relevant experience operating excavators or other heavy earthmoving machinery in mining, quarrying or civil construction environments; OR

· A relevant qualification in heavy machinery operation or civil construction (NZQF Level 4 or above)

· Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently in complex site conditions

· Experience working to engineering specifications, site plans and workplace Health & Safety procedures

· Strong understanding of excavation techniques, soil conditions and material handling

· Basic mechanical knowledge for routine equipment checks and minor maintenance

· Good communication skills, ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
