HJ Liquor Limited is urgently looking for a Store Manager for their Liquorland Waipukurau store in Hawke’s Bay Central.
HJ Liquor Limited trading as Liquorland Waipukurau is a Hawke’s Bay Central-based liquor retail business supplying a range of beer, wine, spirits and other licensed products to local customers. We are seeking an experienced Store Manager to take responsibility for the daily operation, staff management, stock control and overall performance of the store.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering a minimum of 30 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
About the Role:
The Store Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the store and ensuring that the business operates efficiently, maintains high customer service standards and complies with all relevant licensing, responsible alcohol sale, health and safety and workplace requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operation of the liquor store and ensure efficient running of the business.
- Plan staff rosters, allocate duties and ensure adequate staffing across operating hours.
- Recruit, train, supervise and support store employees.
- Monitor staff performance and provide guidance to maintain appropriate service standards.
- Manage stock levels, stock ordering, stock rotation, inventory records and replenishment.
- Liaise with suppliers, place orders and coordinate incoming deliveries.
- Ensure products are correctly priced, displayed and available for sale.
- Monitor sales, identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to support store performance and profitability.
- Ensure responsible sale and supply of alcohol in accordance with the store's licence and applicable New Zealand requirements.
- Ensure staff follow appropriate age-verification and identification procedures when selling alcohol.
- Handle customer enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally.
- Oversee daily cash handling, banking, till procedures and reconciliation of sales.
- Maintain accurate records relating to sales, stock, staff attendance and store operations.
- Monitor store security and take appropriate measures to minimise theft, wastage and stock loss.
- Coordinate promotional displays and in-store marketing activities.
- Maintain the store in a clean, organised and presentable condition.
- Ensure employees comply with workplace health and safety procedures.
- Monitor the overall condition and presentation of the premises and report maintenance or operational issues.
- Provide regular operational and performance updates to the business owner.
- Carry out other reasonable duties associated with the effective management and operation of the store.
Skills and Experience:
To be considered for this position, applicants must have either:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in retail management, liquor retail, supermarket management or a similar retail management role; OR
- A relevant NZQF Level 4 or higher qualification in Business, Retail Management, Hospitality or a related field.
- A Manager’s Certificate (LCQ) is required as it’s required to operate the store.
Ideal applicants should demonstrate:
- Previous experience supervising and managing retail staff.
- Good understanding of retail operations, stock control and customer service.
- Ability to manage staff rosters, ordering, sales and daily store operations.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, make operational decisions and manage competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and a professional approach to customer service.
- Understanding of responsible alcohol sales and age-verification requirements.
Experience in liquor retail and knowledge of New Zealand alcohol licensing requirements will be an advantage.
