Duct Fitter

Role Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Duct Fitter to join our team, specializing in commercial and industrial air conditioning equipment installation. In this role, you will read site drawings, lay out duct networks, and assemble, fit, and erect sheet metal ductwork and HVAC plant equipment. Using core mechanical fitting techniques, you will measure, shape, align, and seal air distribution systems to ensure peak operational efficiency and compliance with building standards. (Note: This role excludes automotive/vehicle air conditioning).

Key Responsibilities:

Plan & Interpret Specifications: Study engineering blueprints, HVAC layout drawings, and architectural specifications to determine suitable materials, installation methods, and line sequences.

Layout & Measurement: Perform precision site measurements, mark out alignment lines, and establish suspension points for ducting runs and mechanical units using laser levels and measuring instruments.

Fabrication & Modification: Form, cut, bend, drill, and shape sheet metal ducting, transitions, dampers, and bracketry on-site to fine tolerances using portable cutting, grinding, and shaping tools.

Fitting & Assembly: Fit fabricated ducting sections, plenums, flexible connections, attenuators, and subassemblies together; verify component clearance, alignment, and seal integrity.

Equipment Mounting & Erection: Erect, hoist, and secure stationary HVAC equipment (chillers, air handling units, fan coil units, split indoor systems, and exhaust fans) onto structural frames or acoustic supports.

Piping & Lines: Cut, thread, bend, and route secondary condensate lines, pneumatic control tubes, or refrigerant/fluid lines to support HVAC equipment operation.

Testing & Quality Assurance: Perform air-leakage testing, check airflow balance dampers, and inspect joined components for structural fit and insulation integrity prior to commissioning.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical noise or airflow faults during commissioning and perform operational maintenance on dampers, fans, and duct fittings.

Skill requirements:

• At least two years of relevant work experience or acceptable qualifications. 
• High attention to detail ensuring air-tight seals, clean aesthetic finishes, and strict adherence to design tolerances.
• Ability to visualize 3D duct runs around structural obstacles and other building services.
• Ability to work at heights, lift heavy metal sections and tools, and work overhead or in confined roof spaces.
• Proficient in using manual and power tools (drills, nibblers, grinders, pop riveters), hand-held plasma cutters, and site hoisting equipment.
