The Wellington team is involved in a wide variety of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater projects around the region, including pipe renewals and upgrades, design and construction of infrastructure such as pump stations and culverts, and wastewater and drinking water network planning and design. As a cadet, you'll work towards a sought-after qualification in mechanical engineering. You'll develop skills through practical experience in design and draughting with a view to becoming skilled in these areas as your career progresses.

There is no typical day but areas you will be involved with could include:

  • Assisting with site visits to review project progress, perform tests and completing site walkovers to ensure sites are operating safely.
  • Learning Stantec's suite of Computer Aided Design (CAD) & Digital Engineering (DE) systems and procedures.
  • Support Project Delivery teams with producing technical drawings or 3D.
  • Assisting project management with a variety of project stages.
  • Learning how to perform data analysis and design calculations.
  • Assisting with work on drinking water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Social club events or Developing Professionals Group activities.

What we are looking for from you:

  • Have an interest in Mechanical Engineering and keen to complete papers toward the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering
  • Minimum 48 NCEA Level 2 credits in best 4 subjects including Maths, Graphics and a Science related subject. (If you do not meet the minimum entry requirements there is an option to complete additional foundation courses)
  • Ability for and open to further learning including being disciplined with good study habits
  • Current full Driving licence
  • Sound computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
