About the Role

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced General Surgeons for the role of Clinical Lead, General Surgery, based at Whakatāne Hospital.

This leadership role provides an opportunity to shape and support the delivery of General Surgery services across the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The Clinical Lead will provide clinical leadership and mentoring to SMO and RMO colleagues, oversee service delivery across inpatient, outpatient, emergency and theatre settings, and contribute to service development, quality improvement, patient safety, workforce planning, teaching, and recruitment activities. The role also involves fostering strong relationships with multidisciplinary teams, regional networks, Māori health providers, and community stakeholders.

About You

We welcome expressions of interest from General Surgeons with vocational registration (FRACS or equivalent), a minimum of five years' consultant experience, and demonstrated leadership capability. Applicants should be collaborative, approachable, committed to clinical excellence, and passionate about supporting equitable health outcomes and the ongoing development of surgical services in the Bay of Plenty.
