Telecommunication Technician

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design and install telecommunications equipment and systems in accordance with relevant standards, regulations and service-provider requirements.
• Install and connect fibre telecommunications infrastructure, including fibre connections at cabinets, fusion splicing at FAT, FTP and ONT.
• Program, configure and commission data, voice and internet equipment for customers.
• Integrate existing copper networks with fibre networks for residential and business customers.
• Conduct fibre connection and data transmission quality testing using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve telecommunications faults and undertake reactive maintenance, including repair, replacement and reinstatement of equipment and services.
• Install and provision new telecommunications services in coordination with service providers.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software and network equipment issues.
• Install wireless broadband equipment and structured cabling/wiring at customer premises.
• Coordinate with telecommunications service providers and assist with analysing and resolving NGA faults.
• Provide technical advice to customers and monitor network performance and security.
• Assess customer requirements and technical constraints and provide appropriate telecommunications solutions.
• Calibrate and maintain telecommunications tools and testing equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment, inventory, work completed and service activities.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly job and KPI reports.
• Maintain required health and safety standards and follow workplace procedures.
• Ensure customer service, workmanship and quality standards are maintained.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• At least 2 years of relevant telecommunications industry experience.
• Practical experience in fibre telecommunications installation, splicing, testing and fault finding.
• Knowledge and experience with MDU and ROW infrastructure.
• Knowledge of UFB design rules, telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure.
• Experience working with telecommunications testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot telecommunications network and equipment faults.
• A relevant diploma, certificate or qualification in telecommunications or a related field is desirable.
• A valid New Zealand Class 1 driver's licence.
• Site Safe Building Construction Passport.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Traffic management training and/or relevant experience.
• WTC1, WTC3 and WTC4 certification or relevant experience.
• Confined space training and/or relevant experience.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work safely, independently and as part of a team.
