As our construction and development activities continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our team and oversee the planning, coordination and delivery of construction projects.

About the Role

The Construction Manager will be responsible for managing construction activities from planning through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, within budget and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards and contractual requirements.

You will work closely with company management, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders to coordinate project delivery and resolve construction-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and manage construction projects from commencement through to practical completion and handover.
  • Develop and monitor project programmes, construction schedules, budgets and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts and project documentation to ensure works are delivered in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, construction quality, costs and key milestones.
  • Manage site activities and ensure appropriate labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor resources are available.
  • Identify construction risks, delays and technical issues and coordinate appropriate solutions.
  • Monitor project expenditure and assist with cost control, variations, procurement and budget management.
  • Ensure construction work complies with relevant New Zealand legislation, building requirements, health and safety standards and company procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and project meetings and maintain accurate records of construction progress.
  • Liaise with architects, engineers, consultants and relevant authorities regarding technical and project delivery matters.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor performance and ensure works meet agreed quality and programme requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, defect rectification and project handover activities.
  • Provide regular project progress, cost, programme and risk updates to company management.
  • Support the continuous improvement of construction processes, project controls and delivery standards.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:.

  • Relevant professional experience in construction or project management.
  • Experience managing residential and/or commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project scheduling and site operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and construction drawings and specifications.
  • Good understanding of project budgeting, procurement and cost control.
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a project environment.
  • A practical understanding of construction quality, health and safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.
