JAICO Limited is looking for a practical, hands-on Operations Assistant to support our vessel operations in Dunedin.

This isn't a desk job.

One day you could be coordinating unloading operations at the wharf, the next helping organise vessel supplies, managing warehouse movements, checking health and safety requirements on site, or assisting contractors working around our vessels.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being out in the field, takes pride in getting things done properly, and can work independently when required.

About the Role

Based in Dunedin and reporting to the Timaru-based Operations Manager, you'll play an important support role during vessel port calls and layups.

You'll be involved in:

  • Supporting vessel unloading and loading operations
  • Operating forklifts and coordinating product movements
  • Warehousing and cold storage activities
  • Maintaining safe and organised work sites
  • Assisting with contractor coordination and inductions
  • Monitoring and promoting health and safety standards
  • Liaising with suppliers, contractors and service providers
  • General operational support to keep vessel activities running smoothly

You will often be working alongside crews, contractors, warehouse staff and suppliers, but you will also need to be comfortable working independently when vessels are away from port.

What We're Looking For

This role will suit someone who is practical, proactive and confident working in busy operational environments.

You will have:

  • A full, clean driver's licence
  • Proven forklift operating experience (essential)
  • Current OSH Certificate and F Endorsement, or the ability to obtain them
  • Experience stacking and moving product safely in warehouse or industrial environments
  • Confidence working around contractors, vessels, and heavy equipment
  • Good communication skills and the ability to speak up when required
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
  • The ability to complete basic admin and computer-based tasks
  • Good physical fitness and mobility
  • The ability to work unsupervised and take initiative
  • The ability to pass drug screening

Vessel schedules don't always fit standard business hours.

You'll need to be available when vessels are in port and be flexible around port-call schedules, including occasional early starts, late finishes and some travel to other South Island ports.
