Happy Brush Painting Limited is looking for a reliable and hardworking Painter’s Labourer / Painting Assistant to join our Wanaka-based painting team. This is a permanent, full-time position offering 30 hours per week at $28-$30 per hour. The successful applicant will assist with surface preparation, painting, equipment preparation and general painting labouring duties.

The role
We have vacancies for permanent, full-time roles based in the Otago region. You will be guaranteed at least 30 hours of work per week.
In this role, you’ll assist our painters with preparing and applying paint, varnish, wallpaper and other finishes to building surfaces, including walls, ceilings, and other structural surfaces and fixtures.
Your duties will include:
  • Helping painters with:
    • sanding surfaces and preparing them for painting.
    • Filling holes and cracks to achieve an even surface.
    • Removing old paint and wallpaper where required.
    • Preparing nearby areas and protecting floors, furniture and fixtures from paint damage.
    • Assembling ladders and temporary work platforms safely.
    • Mixing and preparing paint and other materials.
  • Assisting with applying paint, varnish and other finishes using brushes, rollers and spray equipment as directed.
  • Preparing and cleaning painting tools and equipment.
  • Cleaning and tidying work areas after painting work.
  • Assisting painters with general preparation and labouring duties.
  • Following workplace health and safety procedures and instructions from the supervising painter.
You will need
  • No prior work experience is required however if you have prior painting work experience, this is preferred.
  • The ability to cope with physically demanding work.
  • The ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • A reliable and responsible approach to work.
  • The ability to follow workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Good attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol, and character testing.
