Motueka Maternity Unit (Te Whare Whānau) Work as a midwife in true midwifery practice in a wonderful primary maternity unit! Parental Leave cover position 0.3 FTE fixed term for up to 12 months We are committed to women-centred and culturally respectful care. We have a fabulous supportive midwifery team environment. Midwives with experience are welcome to apply. This is a sole charge maternity unit and therefore not suitable for a New Graduate Midwife.

The Team/Location

The Motueka Maternity Unit (Te Whare Whānau) is a primary maternity service for the communities across the Nelson Tasman region. There is approximately 1,000 births per annum in the Nelson Tasman region. The Primary Maternity Service provides low risk intrapartum midwifery support for Lead Maternity Carers and their clients and full midwifery inpatient postnatal care including transfers for postnatal care from Nelson Maternity Secondary Level Unit. There are further opportunities for employed midwives to provide support for outpatient antenatal care alongside LMC midwives and an outreach Obstetric clinic, vaccinations and Anti D in pregnancy programmes too. This sole-charge core midwifery role works rostered and rotating 12 hr shifts within a supportive midwifery team environment. The unit has a strong focus on providing whānau-centred care with Baby Friendly Hospital Accreditation and is dedicated to supporting wāhine and their babies to establish and maintain breastfeeding, ensuring the best possible start for Pepe and whānau in their parenting journey.
