About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Pharmacist to join our Community Services team as a Clinical Pharmacist in a permanent full-time position based at the Talbot Community Health Hub in Timaru.
This role offers the opportunity to integrate clinical pharmacy practice into community services, working collaboratively with primary care teams and healthcare providers to improve the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medicine use across South Canterbury. You will provide expert medicines management advice, undertake independent clinical medicine reviews, support patient self-management, and contribute to optimal health outcomes through patient-centred care.
As a key member of the team, you will work directly with patients, General Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, community providers, and other healthcare professionals to provide objective medicines information, support best-practice prescribing, and implement evidence-based care. You'll also contribute to education, audit activities, prescribing analysis, service development, and continuous quality improvement initiatives across the community setting.
This is a highly autonomous and rewarding role that combines direct patient care, quality improvement, service development, and professional collaboration while making a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of people across South Canterbury.

The Community Services team supports people to live well within their communities through collaborative, person-centred care. Working alongside primary care, community nursing, allied health, and specialist services, the Clinical Pharmacist provides expert medicines management support that helps improve outcomes and enhance the quality and safe use of medicines.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate
- A relevant postgraduate clinical qualification, or be working towards one
- Experience promoting the quality and safe use of medicines
- Strong clinical assessment, critical appraisal, and medicines information skills
- Experience contributing to continuous quality improvement activities
- The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across primary and secondary care settings
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience developing and maintaining effective professional relationships across the health sector
- A current full New Zealand Driver Licence
- A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equitable health outcomes for Māori
Desirable
- Experience delivering medicine review services such as Medicines Therapy Assessment (MTA), Comprehensive Medicines Management, or similar
- A postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification
- Medicines Therapy Assessment (MTA) accreditation
- Membership of the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand
- Membership of the New Zealand Hospital Pharmacists' Association (NZHPA) and/or Clinical Advisory Pharmacists' Association (CAPA)
- Experience leading quality improvement, audit, research, or service development initiatives
- Knowledge of community, primary care, and hospital services

Salary Range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the PSA Allied, Public Health and Technical Collective Agreement, and salary will be paid in accordance with the applicable pay scale, dependent on experience.
