Ruya Kebab is an authentic Turkish restaurant in Porirua. We are open 7 days a week from 10 am to 8.30 pm. We have a capacity around 28 seating patrons, takeaways and deliveries on top of that. We are looking for a cook to assist our team in the kitchen.

The applicant will report directly to the Head Chef and the restaurant owners and will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Inspect and check all meat, vegetables, sauces, spices, and other ingredients to ensure freshness, quality, and compliance with food safety standards.
  2. Prepare and marinate meats according to the restaurant’s recipes, including seasoning and preparing lamb, beef, and chicken for döner kebab and other menu items.
  3. Assemble and skewer döner kebab meat stacks, including layering, shaping, and securing meat onto vertical rotisserie spits in accordance with company procedures.
  4. Operate and monitor kebab machines, rotisseries, grills, ovens, fryers, and other commercial kitchen equipment to ensure food is cooked safely and consistently.
  5. Carve and slice döner kebab meat to the required thickness and portion size while maintaining presentation and quality standards.
  6. Prepare and cook a variety of kebabs, grilled meats, side dishes, salads, wraps, pides, and other menu items, ensuring consistency and quality at all times.
  7. Prepare, portion, and assemble customer orders, including plating meals and adding appropriate sauces, garnishes, and accompaniments.
  8. Cater for special dietary requirements and customer requests where possible, following restaurant procedures and food safety requirements.
  9. Monitor stock levels, properly store food products, rotate stock, and maintain refrigeration and storage areas in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  10. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen, including cleaning food preparation areas, equipment, and utensils.

The applicant

1.        should have at least 6 months of full-time working experience in a similar position or

2.        should have a relevant qualification, Level 2 or higher  

3.        must be able to work on weekends, the store is open 7days, 10 am -8.30 pm

4.        may be required to work evenings to complete tasks

5.        must have good communication skills
