About us

Lulu is a restaurant, cocktail bar, live music venue and function space in the heart of Wellington, with our own private function room, Kiki. We're part of a group of independent Wellington hospitality venues and employ a team of 15–20 full-time and part-time staff.

The role
We're looking for a hands-on General Manager to run Lulu day to day and lead our team. You'll own the guest experience, the team, compliance and the bottom line, working closely with the owners.

What you'll do

  • Run the full venue – restaurant, cocktail bar, live music and functions – front-of-house and kitchen, leading service during our busiest periods
  • Check guest satisfaction, act on feedback and online reviews, and resolve complaints
  •  Own the numbers: budgets, P&L review, gross profit, payroll %, stock variances and cash controls, reporting to our Business Director
Run stocktakes, purchasing and supplier relationships, and keep accurate stock and financial records
  • Develop menus with our chef and the cocktail list with the bar team; review pricing and product performance
  • Sell, plan and run functions and private events, including our Kiki function space
  • Recruit, train, roster and supervise front-of-house and kitchen staff – a team of 15–20 – and coach and develop the management team
  • Keep the venue clean, well presented and compliant with liquor licensing, food safety and health and safety rules
  • Drive promotions, events and continuous improvement
  • Get hands-on when needed: taking reservations, greeting guests, taking orders and working the bar

What you'll need

  • At least 3 years' management experience in high-volume bars or restaurants (GM, AGM or assistant manager level), or a relevant Diploma (NZQF Level 5+) plus 1 years' management experience
  • Proven responsibility for budgets, gross profit, labour costs and stock control
  • Experience leading a team of 15+, including recruitment, training, rostering, performance and disciplinary management
  • Working knowledge of liquor licensing, food safety and health and safety requirements
  • A current NZ Manager's Certificate, or able to get one within 3 months
  • Availability for nights, weekends and public holidays
  • The right to work in New Zealand, or eligibility for a work visa

Nice to have

  • Function, event or live music experience
  • Experience developing managers or supervisors
  • Strong cocktail and beverage knowledge

What we offer

  • $38.00–$42.00 per hour, plus performance and profit bonuses
  • Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed; usually 40–45 hours including nights, weekends and public holidays
  • Staff discounts across our group venues
  • Training and development
