Spice Mantra and Indian Hut offer authentic Indian cuisine with an emphasis on traditional flavours, quality ingredients and customer satisfaction. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Cook to join our team and support the daily kitchen operations across our restaurants - Indian Hut – 76 Main Street, Oxford, Waimakariri and Spice Mantra – 812 Main North Road, Belfast, Christchurch. Successful applicant will work between Indian Hut & Spice Mantra as per requirement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Prepare, season and cook a variety of Indian dishes in accordance with established recipes and restaurant standards.

· Prepare ingredients, including vegetables, meats, sauces, spices and other cooking essentials.

· Cook curries, rice dishes, tandoori items and other Indian menu offerings as required.

· Monitor food quality, taste, portion sizes and presentation to maintain consistency.

· Assist with menu preparation and daily kitchen operations.

· Maintain proper food storage, stock rotation and inventory control.

· Ensure the kitchen, equipment and food preparation areas remain clean and hygienic.

· Follow food safety, workplace health and safety requirements.

· Coordinate with chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation of customer orders.

· Perform other reasonable duties associated with the position.

 

Skills and Requirements

· Previous relevant work experience of 2-3 years OR a relevant qualification such as cookery.

· Knowledge of Indian cuisine, ingredients, spices and cooking techniques.

· Ability to work efficiently in a busy commercial kitchen.

· Good communication, time management and teamwork skills.

· Ability to maintain high standards of food preparation and hygiene.

· Willingness to work at either restaurant location as rostered.

· Availability to work weekends, evenings and public holidays.

Pay Rate: NZD $25 to $32 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Hours: Minimum 30 hours to maximum 45 hours per week
Days of Work: Tuesday to Sunday, according to a rotating roster
