Cook – New Plymouth, Taranaki

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Cook to join our busy supermarket in New Plymouth, Taranaki.

This is a permanent position offering minimun 30 hours per week, with an hourly pay rate of $27–$32, depending on the applicant’s skills, experience and suitability for the role.

Flexibility is essential, as the successful applicant must be available to work weekends, late-night shifts and public holidays.

 

The Cook will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Preparing ingredients by washing, cutting, marinating and portioning food.

  2. Cooking food using various methods, including grilling, frying, baking, roasting and steaming.

  3. Monitoring food quality, taste, portion sizes and presentation.

  4. Ensuring food is prepared and stored in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards.

  5. Maintaining cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas.

  6. Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering ingredients and kitchen supplies.

  7. Checking the freshness and quality of ingredients and reporting any issues.

  8. Coordinating with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and service of meals.

  9. Assisting with menu planning and estimating food requirements where required.

  10. Complying with workplace health and safety procedures.

  11. Minimising food wastage and ensuring proper stock rotation.

  12. Undertaking other reasonable duties as directed by Management.

     

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant restaurant experience or a Level 4 Cookery/Hospitality qualification.

  • Strong cooking, food preparation and presentation skills.

  • Reliable, professional and team-oriented.

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and follow procedures.

  • Good communication skills and food safety awareness.

  • Availability to work weekends, late-night shifts and public holidays.
