Position: Café Manager
Location: Napier, New Zealand
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time (35 hours per week)
Pay Rate: $30 – $32 per hour (depending on experience)

 

Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Café Manager to lead operations at a busy hospitality venue in Napier. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to oversee both the daily café service and catering for a range of on-site events, from small meetings to large functions.

The café operates 7 days a week, so flexibility to work weekends as part of a roster is essential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily café operations in line with direction from the Food and Beverage Manager

  • Lead, supervise, and support café staff, including managing weekly rosters

  • Assist with recruitment, staff onboarding, and training

  • Ensure high standards in food and beverage preparation, presentation, and customer service

  • Monitor inventory and stock levels, liaise with suppliers, and manage timely ordering

  • Oversee cash handling, EFTPOS transactions, and financial reporting

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety, and health and safety compliance

  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team environment


What We’re Looking For:

  • A qualification in hospitality, or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a café manager  or relevant role

  • Experience in high-volume or large-scale hospitality environments is an advantage

  • Exposure to catering or event service is desirable

  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset with a drive to improve service and efficiency

  • Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices

  • A reliable, honest, and confident leader who values teamwork and communicates well

  • A friendly personality with a sense of humour and passion for hospitality
