At Catfe Mao, we are more than just a café – we are a sanctuary for both coffee lovers and cats. “Mao” means “cat” or “kitten” in Chinese, and our café lives up to the name by offering a unique experience where customers can enjoy their favourite brew in the company of our rescued feline friends.

In addition to café service, we rescue, rehabilitate, and care for stray cats, who become beloved members of our Catfe Mao family. . We are also committed to facilitating adoptions for stray cats in our care, and carefully assess potential adopters to ensure they are suitable and responsible. We also provide short-term cat boarding services for customers who are away due to travel or other commitments, ensuring their pets are well cared for in a safe, loving environment.

We strictly operate in accordance with all applicable animal welfare and health regulations to ensure the highest standards of care and compliance.

We are now looking for a Cattery Operator who is passionate about animal welfare and customer service to join our growing team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet clients and manage the check-in and check-out of boarding cats
  • Supervise and support staff involved in animal care and cleaning
  • Oversee daily care of cats, including feeding, grooming, hygiene, and basic health monitoring
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for all animals and guests
  • Liaise with veterinarians, suppliers, and customers as needed
  • Manage appointment bookings, payments, and customer records
  • Promote our services and help foster strong customer relationships
  • Conduct suitability assessments for individuals interested in adopting stray cats

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in animal care, pet boarding, or a related field
  • A qualification equivalent to NZQF Level 5 in a relevant discipline (e.g. Business Management, Animal Care, Veterinary Technology, or similar), or a Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Experience in pet rescue, fostering, or long-term animal care is highly desirable
  • Applicants with pet grooming skills will be given priority
  • Must be compassionate, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
