Café Cook – Full-Time | New Plymouth
Pay rate: $27–$30 per hour | Minimum 30 hours per week
We are looking for two reliable and committed individuals to join our team as Cafe Cooks at our New Plymouth location. This is a full-time position with a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week, and a pay rate ranging from $27 to $30 per hour, depending on experience.
Job Details:
- You must be available to work according to a roster, including weekends.
- Our business operates 7 days a week, from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Staff are expected to arrive before opening hours for prep and stay after closing for cleaning and pack-down.
Main Responsibilities:
• Take care of daily food preparation and duties to meet the standard and quality
• Estimate daily production needs and check the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure standards are met
• Ensure production preparation and presentation of food are of the highest quality at all times
• Preparing and cooking food; seasoning food during cooking; portioning food, placing it on plates, and adding gravies, sauces and garnishes;
• Preparing food to meet special dietary requirements;
• Examining foodstuffs to ensure quality;
• Knowledge of all standard procedures and policies pertaining to food preparation receiving storage and sanitation
• Full awareness of all menu items recipes methods of production and presentation standards
• Responsible for hygiene safety and correct use of equipment and utensils
• Ensure the kitchen environment is clean and tidy
• To produce own work in accordance with deadlines
• Periodically check the expiry date and proper storage of food items in the section
• Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities;
• Abide and enforce health codes and cleanliness standards in the kitchen and food storage areas
• Ensure plating accuracy garnishing portion size and correct serving dish
• Regulating temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment;
• Cleaning oven, deep fryer and big dipper are part of the duties and must be followed on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
• Unscheduled kitchen cleaning tasks will also need to be performed under the instructions of management
• May train other kitchen staff and apprentices
• Comply with health and safety regulations
Requirements:
- At least 1 year of relevant experience or relevant qualification at level 4 and above
- Flexibility to work early mornings, long shifts, and weekends
- Good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety practices
- Willingness to undergo ongoing training
