Bakery cafe manager

Position Available: Bakery Café Manager – Taihape

Are you a motivated individual with a passion for the bakery and café industry, coupled with strong leadership and financial management skills?

We are seeking a Bakery Café Manager to lead our team in Taihape. This is a permanent, full-time role, offering between 40–45 hours per week. Our café operates 7 days a week, from 5 AM to 5 PM, so flexibility to work on weekends, public holidays, and during busy seasonal periods is essential.

Pay Rate: $25 – $35 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience).

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and profitability.

• Manage financial performance, including revenue tracking, cost control, and expense management.

• Monitor product mix, introduce new menu items, and adjust pricing strategies as needed.

• Control stock levels, supplier orders, purchasing, and budget management to maximise profit margins.

• Prepare financial reports, GST returns, and end-of-year documentation in coordination with the accountant.

• Manage payroll, rosters, and compliance with wage regulations.

• Ensure strict compliance with food safety and hygiene standards, with accurate record-keeping.

• Recruit, train, supervise, and support bakery and café staff.

• Handle customer service issues professionally and uphold service standards.

• Oversee marketing initiatives, including managing social media platforms.

• Report operational challenges to the owner and carry out administrative duties as required.

Work Experience and Qualification Requirements

• A relevant tertiary qualification (Diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Management); OR

• At least three years of experience in a management role within retail, hospitality, café, restaurant, service industries, or as a Management Teacher

• Strong financial and analytical skills, with proven experience in budgeting and reporting.

• A positive attitude, reliability, and the ability to work independently.

• Clean criminal record and drug-free status.

• Must hold NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
