General Manager - Lead a dual-site care home & village in Bay of Plenty. Drive performance, empower teams & deliver exceptional resident care.
General Manager – Aged Care & Retirement Living
Bay of Plenty

Bring your leadership, commercial acumen, and heart to a role where you can shape an entire community.

This isn’t just another management job. It’s a career-defining opportunity to take the reins of a large care home and retirement village, lead a team of 100+, and build a thriving, resident-focused culture in one of New Zealand’s most sought-after regions.

The Opportunity As General Manager, you’ll hold full responsibility for the operational, financial, and cultural performance of a combined retirement village and care home site. You’ll set the vision, drive standards, and ensure your team delivers an exceptional experience for residents and families every single day.

This role is ideal for a leader who thrives on walking the floor as much as managing the P&L — someone who understands that real impact comes from both strong financial results and human connection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership: Oversee all day-to-day operations across the care home and retirement village
  • People Leadership: Recruit, retain, coach, and inspire a team of 100 staff, creating a culture of performance, trust, and engagement.
  • Resident Experience: Ensure seamless, person-centred care is consistently delivered, building strong relationships with residents and families.
  • Financial Performance: Own the site’s budget, driving occupancy, sales, and profitability targets while monitoring performance against KPIs.
  • Quality & Risk: Lead continuous quality improvement, compliance, and audit readiness, with a strong focus on health, safety, and clinical governance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with regional management, local health providers, Te Whatu Ora, allied health teams, and community groups.
  • Strategic Growth: Identify opportunities to enhance services, optimise processes, and contribute to the organisation’s customer-centric vision.
  • Change Leadership: Drive transformational projects, embedding new ways of working that lift both staff engagement and resident outcomes.
About You We’re looking for a confident, collaborative leader who balances commercial rigour with genuine empathy. You’ll be resilient under pressure, skilled at managing complexity, and motivated by building something that lasts.
  • Proven experience in senior leadership (aged care, health, hospitality, or another complex service industry).
  • Strong business and financial management skills, with experience in budgets, occupancy growth, and KPI delivery.
  • Background in leading large, diverse teams through change and growth.
  • Skilled communicator with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Tertiary qualification in business, health management, or related field is desirable.
  • A natural relationship-builder with residents, staff, and the local community.
Why You’ll Love This Role
  • Competitive salary package plus health insurance, wellbeing support, and paid parental leave.
  • Career development with structured leadership training and pathways.
  • Join a nationally recognised aged-care and retirement provider with strong values and a clear vision.
  • Accredited Immigration NZ employer supporting international applicants.
  • Live and work in the Bay of Plenty – sun, beaches, outdoor lifestyle, and a welcoming community.
