Located in the heart of Greenhithe, The Collins Café and Bar is a vibrant local café known for its freshly prepared food, premium coffee, and welcoming atmosphere. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Café Manager to join our team and oversee the daily operations of the café and bar.

  • Minimum guaranteed hours of work per week: 30 hours.
  • Maximum hours of work per week: 40 hours

Tasks and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the café and bar to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Plan menus with Chef or Cook.
  • Hiring, supervising, training, and motivating front-of-house and kitchen staff.
  • Preparing staff rosters and monitoring attendance to maintain adequate coverage.
  • Monitoring stock levels, placing orders, and maintaining supplier relationships.
  • Managing daily cash flow, POS operations, and banking procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety, health and safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Overseeing customer service standards and promptly resolving any customer issues.
  • Monitoring sales performance, controlling costs, and assisting with budgeting and profitability.
  • Coordinating marketing activities, seasonal promotions, and community events.

Skills and Experience Required:

To be successful in this position, you must have:

  • At least three years of proven managerial experience in a café, restaurant, or hospitality setting (in New Zealand or overseas); OR
  • At least a relevant NZQF Diploma Level 5 Qualification.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Excellent understanding of operations of hospitality establishment, including stock management and customer service.
  • Good financial and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations.
  • Availability to work evening and night-time functions when required.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends, early mornings, and public holidays as required.
  • Event/function and restaurant management experience is a plus - the ability to manage private bookings and events will be highly valued.
