We are an established Filipino takeaway and dine-in business located in Hamilton, proudly serving authentic Filipino cuisine. Our team regularly attends night markets and community events, bringing traditional flavours to a wider audience and building strong local connections.
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook with expertise in Filipino cuisine to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in preparing authentic dishes and desserts, maintains high standards of food safety, and thrives in a busy kitchen environment. This is a full-time role, working a minimum of 30 hours a week, to a maximum of 60 hours per week as required for community events or night markets. Days of work are from Tuesday to Sunday, and sometimes public holidays if required.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of traditional Filipino meals and sweets.
- Plan and manage daily food preparation schedules.
- Maintain consistency in taste, texture, and presentation.
- Be able to follow NZ Food Control Plan hygiene and safety standards.
- Monitor stock levels, order ingredients, and reduce food waste.
- Assist in developing Filipino-inspired menu items and specials.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and equipment.
- Train and supervise junior kitchen staff when required.
- Collaborate with the owner or head chef to ensure quality service.
- Adjust recipes to meet dietary needs while preserving authentic
- flavours.
- Inspect and maintain kitchen equipment.
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff for smooth service.
Skills and Attributes
- NZ Level 4 qualification in Cookery, Hospitality or other relevant and equivalent qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience preparing Filipino dishes and desserts (overseas experience accepted).
- Strong knowledge of Filipino cuisine, pastries, and sweets.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
- Good understanding of NZ food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Excellent time management and teamwork skills.
- Creativity and attention to detail.
- Able to long work hours if required for community events or night markets
