Souvlaki Licious, a popular late-night eatery in Christchurch, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Cook to join our team. We specialise in high-quality Greek and Mediterranean-inspired dishes, with a focus on fresh ingredients, authentic flavours, and fast-paced service.
This is a permanent, full-time role with a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Our business operates from 12:00 PM to 2:00 AM (next day), and the successful candidate must be available to work across these hours, including weekends and public holidays as required.
Position: Cook (Full-Time, Permanent)
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $32.00 per hour (based on experience and skills)
Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
Key Duties
- Prepare, cook, and present a variety of dishes offered by Souvlaki Licious, including grilled meats, souvlaki, wraps, salads, sauces, and Mediterranean-inspired meals.
- Season, marinate, grill, roast, and cook ingredients in line with the restaurant’s recipes and quality standards.
- Maintain consistency in taste, portion size, and presentation across all menu items.
- Ensure food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and equipment are always clean and hygienic.
- Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering supplies, and ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations as required by New Zealand legislation.
- Operate commercial cooking equipment safely and efficiently.
- Manage workflow during peak hours and coordinate with team members to ensure timely service.
- Assist in menu development, including suggesting new items or improvements aligned with Souvlaki Licious cuisine.
- Minimise food wastage by managing ingredients effectively and maintaining portion control.
- Adhere to the business’s operational standards, including opening, closing, and cleaning procedures.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum of two years of relevant work experience OR a New Zealand Register Level 4 qualification or higher in Cookery
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, especially during late-night peak hours.
- Strong knowledge of grilling, marinating, and Mediterranean-style cooking techniques.
- Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work across the business operating hours (12 PM – 2 AM).
