Te whiwhinga mahi – The opportunity

Purapura Whetu provide the Te Kauae service to support vulnerable older people experiencing abuse neglect or other vulnerability. The service focuses on establishing safety, enhancing wellbeing and building connection.

We are looking for a clinician experienced in working with Kaumatua Whaiora / Older persons to work independently in the community to enhance wellbeing.

As a clinician in this service, you will be an expert in working to build strong trusting relationships with whaiora and whanau, establishing and maintaining strong community networks with other services and working with independence and initiative.

Ngā kawenga matua o te mahi – Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Delivering strengths-based services that enhance the safety and wellbeing of Kaumatua Whaiora
  • Working in partnership with Kaumatua Whaiora and their whanau in a way that values their capacity, skills, knowledge, connections and potential
  • Deliver services that are culturally appropriate, particularly for Māori, Pasifika and migrant communities

To be successful, you will:

  • Hold a qualification in Social Work, Occupation Therapist, Counselling or other related Mental Health field
  • Hold a registration with an allied health profession such as Social Work, Occupation Therapist, NZAC, DAPAANZ etc (or working towards)
  • Have appropriate skills and experience in working with Kaumatua and ideally in the area of elder abuse, neglect and vulnerability
  • A good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and knowledge of tikanga Māori / Te Reo
  • Have an ability to build and maintain credible relationships internally and externally, including strong community engagement and reputation

 

You will be part of the wider multidisciplinary team at Purapura Whetū Trust, working to enhance whaiora, whanau and community wellbeing.

This role is 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. An ability to work independently, with confidence and initiative in challenging and sensitive situations is essential.
