Manager Acute Services – Mental Health and Addictions

Salary up to $140,764 per annum
FTE: 1.0 (80 hours per fortnight)
A senior leadership opportunity for an experienced mental health or addictions professional to lead acute services across inpatient, crisis and co-response models of care.
This role requires a confident, credible leader with strong clinical foundations, proven operational capability and the ability to lead multidisciplinary services in a complex and high-acuity environment.
The Role
As Manager Acute Services, you will have overall responsibility for the leadership, performance and strategic direction of acute mental health and addictions services, including:
- A 23-bed acute inpatient mental health unit
- Crisis assessment and brief care services
- Mental Health Co-Response services
You will provide senior leadership across clinical, operational and financial domains, ensuring services are safe, responsive, evidence-based and culturally appropriate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, coaching and supporting Team Leaders and senior clinical staff
- Ensuring effective service delivery across acute mental health and addictions pathways
- Oversight of business planning, financial performance, workforce planning and budgets
- Driving quality improvement, service development and change initiatives
- Working in partnership with Heads of Department and Professional Leads
- Providing strong clinical governance and promoting best practice standards
- Ensuring compliance with relevant New Zealand health legislation and standards
- Supporting a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and culturally responsive model of care
This is a highly influential role with accountability for outcomes, culture and service performance.

You will work closely with senior clinical leaders, multidisciplinary teams and professional leads across inpatient, community and crisis services.

About You
You will be an experienced senior leader with a strong background in mental health and or addictions services.
You will bring:
- Minimum five years’ post-registration experience in a clinical management role
- Advanced clinical experience across mental health and or addictions settings
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience in complex health services
- Proven ability to lead through change in high-pressure environments
- Strong quality improvement and service development experience
- Financial and resource management capability, including budget accountability
- Sound understanding of New Zealand health legislation and frameworks
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- A collaborative, values-led leadership style
