Location: Christchurch, Canterbury
Hours: Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week
Pay Rate: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
Work Schedule: Open 7 days a week, roster-based shifts

We are seeking two dedicated Cooks to join our kitchen team at our restaurant in Christchurch. If you are passionate about cooking, detail-oriented, and have a strong work ethic, we’d love to have you on board.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily Food Preparation: Take care of all food preparation and duties to meet restaurant standards and ensure the highest food quality.
  • Adhere to Management Instructions: Follow directions and recommendations from executive management and ensure kitchen procedures are followed.
  • Stock Management: Order food supplies as needed, adhering to the pre-set budget.
  • Staff Training: Train junior kitchen staff to help them develop their skills and maintain quality.
  • Production Needs: Estimate daily production requirements and check the quality of raw and cooked products to ensure they meet our high standards.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the production, preparation, and presentation of food is always top quality.
  • Knowledge of Procedures: Follow all standard food preparation procedures and policies, including receiving, storage, and sanitation.
  • Menu Awareness: Be fully knowledgeable of menu items, recipes, cooking methods, and presentation standards. Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Hygiene & Safety: Maintain a clean and safe working environment by adhering to health and safety protocols. Ensure the correct use of kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Food Storage: Periodically check expiry dates and ensure proper storage of food items within your section.
  • Plating & Presentation: Ensure plating accuracy, portion control, garnishing, and correct use of serving dishes.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Always comply with health and safety regulations and cleanliness standards in the kitchen and food storage areas.

Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience or a relevant qualification at Level 4 and above.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on food quality, presentation, and cleanliness.
  • Ability to Work Under Pressure: Thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with kitchen staff and management.
  • Flexibility & Reliability: Able to work various shifts as per the roster and adapt to changing needs.
