Employer: Shylo Ambrose Limited

Employment type: Permanent Fulltime

Role: Kitchen Hand

Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week

Location: Auckland

Salary: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour

Rooted in traditional Thai flavours and refined for the local palate, our kitchen delivers dishes with bold authenticity, balance, and consistency. As a busy and well-established Thai restaurant, we are known for genuine flavours, efficient kitchen operations, and warm hospitality.

We are currently seeking a reliable and motivated Kitchen Hand to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen environment and is keen to develop practical skills in Thai cuisine.

Responsibilities:

Assist with basic food preparation, including washing, cutting, and portioning ingredients used in Thai cuisine.

Support cooks and chefs with daily kitchen setup.

Assist with simple cooking tasks, including frying pre-prepared items and preparing garnishes.

Handle and store Thai ingredients correctly, including fresh herbs, sauces, spices, and vegetables.

Safely operate, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment including rice cookers, gas burners, fryers, woks, refrigeration units, and dishwashers.

Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation across kitchen work areas.

Follow food safety, hygiene, and health and safety procedures.

Assist with dishwashing and waste management.

Work cooperatively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service.

This role is ideal for someone seeking to build a long-term career in hospitality, gain practical kitchen experience, and develop their skills within a supportive team environment. A basic understanding of Thai ingredients and common kitchen equipment, or a strong willingness to learn, is required.

The successful candidate will have an awareness of food safety and hygiene standards and be able to follow instructions and workplace procedures. Good time-management skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure are essential. The role requires physical fitness, including the ability to stand for long periods and perform manual kitchen tasks. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays is required, and you may occasionally need to travel to other store locations within Auckland, so the ability to travel as needed is essential.
