Govender’s Counselling Services is a Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) Accreditedproviderand an official supplier for Work and Income (MSD). We hold key therapeutic contracts with ACC (Sensitive Claims), Victim Support (Manaaki Tāngata), Gumboot Friday, and Corrections. 

We are seeking a professional Allied Health Assistant to support our LeadCounsellor in delivering therapeutic and rehabilitative care. This role involves assisting with treatment plans for clients recovering from trauma and sexual abuse, including men and women within the justice system. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Therapy Assistance & Rehabilitation 

  • Assist the Lead Counsellor in the physical and psychosocial delivery of prescribed therapeutic programs and mental health intervention plans.
  • Support the progress of clients towards the achievement of their specificcare plans and personal rehabilitative goals.
  • Facilitate and supervise structured activities such as gymsessions andoutdoor rehabilitative exercises to restore client social skills and physical wellbeing.
  • Provide education on meal preparation, budgeting, and career path navigation to empower clients toward independent living.
  • Maintain factual, timely, and formal records of all client interactions throughcomputer-based systems to meet ACC and Health NZ audit standards.
  • Complete daily reports on database management systems to recordclinical observations and safety checks.
  • Promptly identify and inform the Lead Clinician of any behavioural triggersor problems clients are experiencing for immediate clinical follow-up.
  • Manage the secure transportation of vulnerable clients to and fromschool, therapy appointments, and community reintegration activities.
  • Escort and supervise high-needs clients during community engagement initiatives or special events to maintain a trauma-informed environment.
  • Work effectively with strategic partners including NZ Police, OrangaTamariki, and Corrections to ensure safe care delivery. 

Skills Requirements 

  • Minimum 1 year work experience in a community, health, or educationsupport role.
  • Clear NZ Police essential for the role as we are dealing with vulnerableclients.
  • Suicide Prevention and Trauma-Informed Care training desirable 
  • Full clean NZ Driver License is essential for transporting vulnerable clients.
  • Good communication skills, which are an asset for effective reporting.
  • Holding First Aid certificate or ability to obtain one is desirable
