Position: Baker

Employment Type: Full-time (minimum 30 hours and up to 40 hours per week)
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour (depending on skills and experience)

About the Role

We are a family-run bakery business that has recently opened in new premises. We are seeking three skilled and motivated Bakers to support the day-to-day operations of our newly opened and busy bakery.

This role is responsible for the independent preparation and production of bakery goods from scratch, ensuring consistent quality, presentation, and compliance with food safety standards.

The bakery operates 7 days a week and is open on most public holidays, except Christmas Day. Operating hours are 5:30 am to 5:00 pm, with shifts rostered within these hours. The role involves early morning starts, weekends, and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities

·  Prepare, mix, knead, prove, shape, and bake doughs and batters in accordance with standard recipes and daily production schedules

·  Independently produce a range of bakery products from scratch, including:

  • Bread
  • Cakes
  • Pies and savouries
  • Biscuits and slices

·  Operate baking equipment and ovens, accurately monitoring baking times and temperatures to ensure consistent quality

·  Monitor the quality, consistency, and presentation of finished bakery products

·  Estimate ingredient requirements and contribute to daily baking and production planning

·  Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and workplace health & safety at all times

·  Monitor stock levels, receive and check deliveries, rotate stock, and ensure correct product dating

·  Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised bakery work area

·  Assist with the preparation of breakfast items when required, in support of bakery operations

·  Provide on-the-job training and guidance to bakery staff as required

Skills and Experience

  • Ideally three years’ relevant work experience as a baker, cook or pastrycook ; however, applicants with a minimum of two years’ relevant experience will be considered, or
  • A relevant Level 4 qualification in cookery or a related field
  • Proven ability to produce bakery items independently and consistently
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays on a rostered basis
  • Good time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and follow production requirements
  • Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods
