Position Overview:

The Personal Carer role provides in-home personal care, household assistance, and
companionship support to individuals and households requiring assistance due to age-
related needs, disability, temporary limitations, or reduced independence. The role
supports a range of clients, including families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities,
with care requirements varying depending on individual circumstances.

The focus of the role is to support daily living activities, maintain routine, dignity, safety, structure, and overall wellbeing within a home-based environment. By providing consistent and reliable care support, the position also contributes to continuity of care for families and existing carers, while remaining primarily focused on the needs of each care recipient.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day personal care and assistance within clients’ homes

• Support daily routines and accompany clients during activities outside the home

• Assist with mobility, transfers, and safe movement

• Prepare meals and assist with basic nutrition planning

• Provide household assistance to maintain clean, organised, safe, and supportive living environments

• Complete household tasks including laundry, bed making, tidying, and general home organisation

• Support clients in maintaining routine, structure, and daily functioning within the home

• Assist with basic household maintenance and oversight of home-related tasks where required

• Assist with personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing

• Provide companionship, reassurance, and emotional support

• Assist with shopping, errands, and appointment accompaniment

• Support social engagement and routine-based activities

• Observe general wellbeing and communicate relevant changes to families or supervisors

Skills, Experience & Requirements

• Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in personal care, home support, disability support, or aged care OR a relevant NZQA Level 4 qualification

• Proven experience delivering one-on-one care and support in home-based settings

• Experience supporting clients with a range of personal care and household support needs

• Experience with clients with dementia and other complex needs

• Ability to work independently with sound judgement and professionalism

• Strong communication skills, empathy, and respect for client dignity

• Physically capable of assisting with mobility and daily living tasks

• Full, clean driver licence

• Clean criminal record

• Able to pass a pre-employment and random drug test

• Flexibility to work structured hours as required

• Willingness to commit to long-term, stable employment

Hours & Employment Type

• Full-time, permanent role

• Minimum 33 hours per week
