Hours: 30 to 40 hours per week (rostered, including weekends/public holidays as required)
Pay rate: NZD $24.00 to $28.00 per hour (depending on skills/performance)

Position purpose

To provide excellent customer service and prepare menu items to Subway brand standards, while supporting the Store Manager by training and coaching team members so that service, food safety, and store standards are consistently met.

Key duties and responsibilities

Customer service & point-of-sale

  • Welcome customers, take and confirm orders, answer menu and allergen queries, and provide friendly service.

  • Operate POS/till, process payments, and handle cash/eftpos accurately.

  • Respond to customer feedback and resolve basic issues promptly; escalate when needed.

Food preparation & service (Subway operations)

  • Prepare subs/salads/wraps and complete food prep to recipe, portion, presentation, and time standards.

  • Bake bread/cookies (where applicable), replenish ingredients, label/date, rotate stock (FIFO), and minimise wastage.

  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and allergen controls at all times.

Store cleanliness, hygiene & compliance

  • Clean and sanitise food-prep areas, equipment, utensils, dining areas, and restrooms as per schedules.

  • Complete routine checks/logs as required (e.g., opening/closing tasks, cleaning schedules, temperature checks where used).

  • Follow Health & Safety procedures and report hazards/incidents.

  • Support team members during shifts, model best practice, and give feedback to improve speed, accuracy, and customer experience.

  • Support the Store Manager with maintaining consistent standards across shifts (handover notes, task allocation, reminders of procedures).

Minimum requirements

  • One year of work experience in the similar industry or a bachelors' qualification.

  • Ability to work rostered shifts (including weekends/public holidays as required).

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Good communication skills and willingness to learn and follow systems/processes.

Physical requirements (role-related)

  • Standing for extended periods; light-to-moderate lifting (e.g., cartons of stock).

  • Manual handling and safe work practices required.
