Duty Manager – Licensed Bar

Churchil Tavern Limited | Christchurch Pay Rate: $25 – $35 per hour Minimum 30 hours per week Business Hours: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Monday to Sunday

Churchil Tavern Limited, a licensed hospitality venue in Christchurch, is seeking a responsible and experienced Duty Manager to support the Venue Manager and ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the bar.

The Duty Manager will work under the guidance of the Venue Manager and will take responsibility for managing the venue during the Venue Manager’s absence.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 1 year of relevant hospitality or bar experience, OR
  • A New Zealand Register Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in hospitality or a related field
  • Ability to work rostered shifts including weekends and public holidays
  • Knowledge of responsible alcohol service and bar operations (Duty Manager Certificate preferred or willingness to obtain)

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to customers in a professional and efficient manner.

  • Preparing drinks, pouring beer, making basic cocktails, and ensuring presentation standards are maintained.

  • Checking identification and ensuring alcohol is served in accordance with licensing laws.

  • Monitoring customer behaviour and refusing service when required under responsible alcohol guidelines.

  • Handling cash, operating the POS system, and balancing tills at the end of shifts.

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the bar area, including glassware, equipment, and service counters.

  • Restocking fridges, shelves, and bar supplies during and after service.

  • Assisting with stock counts and reporting low inventory levels.

  • Supporting the Venue Manager with supervising staff during shifts.

  • Ensuring health, safety, and security procedures are followed at all times.

  • Acting as the responsible person on duty when required and overseeing operations in the absence of the Venue Manager.

 

Employment Conditions

  • Permanent, ongoing position
  • Minimum 30 hours per week
  • Pay range: $25–$35 per hour, depending on skills and experience
  • Work is based at Churchil Tavern Limited, Christchurch
  • Shifts will be rostered across operating hours, including weekends
