We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Horse Retreat Manager to join our team in a full-time, permanent position. This role combines advanced horse management, workshop support, and multilingual client communication.

This is not an entry-level position. It requires demonstrated experience in horse handling, equine welfare practices, and client-facing workshop environments, with the ability to work independently and take operational responsibility. The role involves regular interaction with international clients requiring professional-level communication skills and multilingual capability.

The hourly rate starts from $34 per hour, depending on skills and/or experience. Accommodation may be available on-site at the retreat for an additional cost, subject to agreement.

Key Responsibilities

Equine & Facility Management

  • Daily care, feeding, grooming, and health monitoring of horses

  • Handling and supporting training of wild or recently handled horses

  • Maintaining paddocks, yards, fencing, and equipment

  • Preparing horses and facilities for workshops and client visits

Workshop & Client Support

  • Assisting with horsemanship workshops and clinics

  • Supporting participants with safe horse handling

  • Setting up and packing down workshop equipment

  • Maintaining a safe and professional retreat environment

Translation & Communication

  • Providing fluent communication in English and a second language (Dutch or German preferred)

  • Translating during workshops and safety briefings

  • Assisting with written and verbal client communications

 

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • University degree level qualification or at least 2 years’ relevant practical experience, some of these in horse handling/equine management, or training

  • Experience working with young, wild, or behaviourally complex horses

  • Strong understanding of equine behaviour and welfare practices

  • Fluency in English and at least one additional language (Dutch or German preferred)

  • Physical capability for hands-on outdoor work

  • Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities
