Old Street Asian Hawker Food is a busy and fast-paced Malaysian restaurant in Christchurch, operating 6 days a week (closed Mondays). We are seeking 1 experienced Cook who can work efficiently under pressure and consistently deliver high-quality authentic Malaysian food during busy service periods.

Employment type: Permanent, full-time
Location: Christchurch
Number of positions: 1
Days required: Tuesday to Sunday, including weekends
Hours per week: Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed
Work hours: Split shifts during operating hours 11:00am to 2:00pm then 4:30pm to 8:30pm
Pay range: $32.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience

Job description:

• Prepare, cook and present a wide range of authentic Malaysian dishes
• Assist with menu preparation and food planning
• Ensure food is prepared to a consistently high standard
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen at all times
• Check and store ingredients appropriately
• Monitor food quality and portion control
• Follow food safety and health and safety procedures
• Work efficiently during busy service periods
• Assist with stock rotation and kitchen organisation

Job pre-requisites:

• At least 2 years of relevant work experience
• Strong skills in cooking a wide range of authentic Malaysian cuisines
• Able to withstand strong heat and use a wok skillfully
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure commercial kitchen
• Able to work split shifts, weekends and public holidays as required
• Able to maintain speed, consistency and quality during peak service periods
• Reliable, physically fit, hardworking and able to work independently when needed
