Store Manager- Bakery Café & Coin Mart

Job Description:

Position Available: Store Manager – for a Bakery cafe and Coin Mart in Taihape

Are you a motivated individual with a passion for the bakery and café industry, coupled
with strong leadership and management skills?
We are seeking a Store Manager to lead our team in Taihape for two stores. This is a
permanent, full-time role, offering between 40–45 hours per week. Our coin mart store and café operates 7 days a week, from 5 AM to 5 PM, so flexibility to work on weekends, public holidays, and during busy seasonal periods when tourists travelling through to Wellington.

Pay Rate: $25 – $35 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience).

Key Responsibilities: 

• Plan, organise and control the daily operations of the bakery café and Coin Mart to ensure smooth and efficient retail operations.

• Supervise and coordinate the activities of bakery and café staff, including preparing staff rosters, allocating duties, and ensuring adequate staffing during busy periods.

• Recruit, train, and supervise staff, including conducting performance monitoring and providing guidance on customer service standards, food handling procedures, and workplace policies.

• Monitor sales performance and determine suitable product ranges, menu items, pricing, and promotional activities based on customer demand and seasonal trends.

• Manage stock control and purchasing of bakery ingredients, packaging materials, and retail supplies, maintaining appropriate stock levels and minimising wastage.

• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and workplace health and safety requirements, maintaining required records and procedures.

• Oversee customer service delivery, respond to customer enquiries or complaints, and ensure customers receive prompt and professional service.

• Maintain operational and financial records including daily sales reports, stock records, staff timesheets, and other business documentation, and liaise with the owner and accountant regarding GST reporting and financial administration.

• Manage Coin Mart stock levels, coordinate product displays, oversee merchandise replenishment, and ensure the shop remains clean, organised, and well-presented for customers.

• Support marketing and promotional activities, including maintaining social media updates and engaging with the local community to promote the bakery café and Coin Mart.

• Provide regular updates to the business owner regarding store performance, operational matters, and opportunities to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Work Experience and Qualification Requirements: 

• A relevant tertiary qualification (Diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or
  Management); OR
• At least three years of experience in a management or supervisory role within retail, hospitality, café, restaurant, service industries, education or teaching management, or another closely related field involving staff supervision and operational responsibility.

• A positive attitude, reliability, and the ability to work independently.
• Clean criminal record and drug-free status.
• Must hold NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
