· Full Time permanent Peer Support worker position . Initially hours will be weekdays from 1-9 pm . However as this is a pilot project the hours of work may extend over time into rostered weekend work .

 Job Description

Purapura Whetū Trust is seeking a kaimahi with lived experience of mental health and/or AOD to join our new peer-led crisis recovery café.

This is a full-time role, working alongside tangata whaiora aged 18 years and over, providing support grounded in shared experience, understanding, and hope.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a genuine willingness and commitment to working collaboratively with a range of community services.

Te whiwhinga mahi – The opportunity

We are looking for a kaimahi with lived experience who is committed to supporting tangata whaiora experiencing mental health crisis, walking alongside them with empathy, understanding, and hope.

You will work alongside tangata whaiora, their whānau, and wider support networks to provide compassionate, strengths-based support during times of crisis. This includes creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces, drawing on your lived experience to build connection and trust, and walking alongside tangata whaiora as they navigate immediate challenges. You will also work together with whānau to develop practical strategies that support stabilisation, recovery, and ongoing wellbeing.

 Desired Skills and Experience

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu – What you will bring

· You have lived through mental health or addiction challenges that had a significant impact and are doing well.

· You are kind, you don't judge and you believe everyone should have a say in their own life.

· You are a good listener and can stay calm when things get a bit stressful.

· Ideally you will have had training in Intentional Peer Support and / or peer support practice.

· If you don’t have a Peer Support certificate yet, we will support you to get one while you work.

· Confident supporting tangata whaiora with mental health and addiction challenges.

· Commitment to working within a Kaupapa Māori organisation.

· The ability to work both independently and team environment.

· Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with whānau and community

· Excellent verbal and written communication.

· Full NZ Drivers licence with clean Police Check
