Barista / Sole-Charge – Full Time

The Hayes looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Barista / Shift-in-Charge to join our dynamic hospitality team in Queenstown. This role is perfect for someone passionate about coffee, customer service, and leading shifts in a fast-paced café/ restaurant/ bar environment.

As a Barista / Shift-in-Charge, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional coffee, supporting daily operations, and ensuring smooth service while maintaining high standards of hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

* Prepare high-quality espresso-based coffees and beverages consistently

* Deliver excellent customer service and create a welcoming environment for guests

* Lead shifts and support the team during busy service periods

* Handle cash, operate POS systems, and manage daily transactions

* Ensure café cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety standards are maintained

* Support with ordering, and inventory management

* Support team coordination and maintain smooth workflow during service

* Ensure compliance with New Zealand food safety standards

Requirements

* Minimum 1 years of barista or café experience in a hospitality environment OR a relevant hospitality qualification

* Strong knowledge of coffee preparation and espresso machines

* Excellent customer service and communication skills

* Ability to lead shifts and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

* Current LCQ (License Controller Qualification or ability to obtain immediately) 

• Current Manager’s Certificate (or ability to obtain one) 

* Experience using POS systems and handling cash

* Strong teamwork, organisation, and problem-solving skills

* Ability to speak multiple languages will be considered an added advantage, especially in a tourism-focused environment like Queenstown.

This is a full-time permanent position with a minimum of 32 hours per week.
