My client is a health and social services organisation who service the South Auckland area. They're a fantastic team and their mission is to provide high quality, accessible and affordable healthcare to whanau.
You will be working directly in the community, supporting people who are not currently participating in regular cancer screening to access life saving services. You will focus on establishing trusted relationships so whanau can confidently particiapte in screening programs. This role is full time, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm and you will be based in Mangere.
The role, in a nut shell:
- Supporting individuals and whanau referred to the Cancer Screening Service
- Connecting with whanau kanohi ki te kanohi in homes, clinics and community settings
- Providing clear information about breast, cervical and bowel screening
- Supporting enrolment, appointments and follow-up through screening programmes
- Identifying and addressing barriers such as transport, cost, childcare or fear
- Promoting screening through outreach, community events and wānanga
- Connecting whānau to health, social and community support services
- Advocating for whānau with health providers and screening services
- Developing collaborative relationships with GP clinics, and community partners
- Maintaining case notes, data collection and reporting requirements
To be successful in this role:
- Experience in health promotion, community health, outreach, navigation, or social services
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence engaging with whānau in homes and community settings
- Ability to explain health information in a clear and supportive way
- Understanding of kaupapa Māori and whānau-centred approaches
- Emotional resilience and ability to work with sensitive situations
- Good computer skills and willingness to learn new systems
- Experience with cancer screening programmes or health systems is an advantage but not essential
- The ability to speak Te Reo Māori or a Pacific language is highly advantageous
- Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence
- Either permanent residency or NZ citizenship.
