Cook - specialised in Thai cuisine
We are seeking a passionate Cook specialising in Thai street food and popular Western brunch to join our team. The successful candidate will prepare a wide range of authentic Thai street dishes, including sour and spicy soups, salads, and noodle-based dishes, as well as Thai desserts, alongside modern brunch offerings. You are expected to use fresh ingredients and demonstrate strong knowledge of Thai culinary traditions. Being able to contribute ideas for fusion dishes that combine Thai and Western flavours will be an advantage.
Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: At least 30 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, including night shifts, holidays and weekends
Salary: Negotiable, from $25 to $31 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook a wide range of authentic Thai dishes and desserts.
- Prepare curry/ tom yum pastes, sauces, and marinades from fresh ingredients following traditional recipes.
- Ensure food is prepared, cooked, and presented to a consistent standard of quality.
- Monitor and regulate temperatures of ovens, woks, grills, and other cooking equipment.
- Support stock control by checking ingredients and notifying chefs when supplies are low.
- Comply with food control plan requirements, including food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness.
- Assist in training junior kitchen staffs where required.
- Assist chefs with menu planning and development of new dishes.
Required Skills/ Experience / Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of Thai cuisine is essential.
- Have Either:
- A minimum of two years relevant experience in a professional, fast-paced kitchen environment; or
- A relevant NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification in Cookery.
