Blak Shak, located in Te Anau, Southland, takes great pride in providing exceptional food and coffee to both global travellers and the local community. Situated on the edge of Fiordland National Park, our cafe is dedicated to delivering an outstanding customer experience. Currently, we are seeking a reliable and passionate Manager to join our team.

Applicants must currently reside in NZ with the legal right to long-term employment.

It’s a permanent full-time position, minimum of 30 hours and max of 50 hours per week.

The right candidate must be available on weekends and public holidays.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE:

1. Daily Operations & Financial Management

- Manage the day-to-day running of the cafe, ensuring smooth and efficient service

- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety in line with New Zealand regulations

- Handle daily financial management, including cash handling, reconciliation, and banking

2. Menu Development (Food & Beverage)

- Lead the design and development of food and beverage offerings, with a strong focus on innovative and seasonal drinks

- Refine recipes, ensuring quality, consistency, and presentation standards

- Work closely with suppliers to source high-quality ingredients

3. Staff Management & Quality Control

- Train and supervise staff to build and maintain a high-performing team

- Oversee the consistency and presentation of all food and beverages, ensuring all products meet quality standards before service

- Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment

4. Inventory & Ordering

- Manage stock levels and conduct regular inventory checks

- Place orders with suppliers and minimise waste

- Ensure efficient stock rotation and proper storage practices

5. Marketing & Customer Engagement

- Collaborate with the owner to develop and implement marketing strategies to grow the cafe’s customer base

- Create content for social media, including photography and promotional materials

- Build strong relationships with regular customers and the local community

 

ABOUT YOU

- A relevant Diploma (in Hospitality / Business),

  OR, at least three years of cafe / hospitality management experience

- Proven expertise in preparing a wide range of coffee, including espresso-based beverages and latte art

- Passion for food, beverages, and customer service

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and solve problems proactively

- Flexibility to work on weekends and public holidays is essential
