Job Description:
Hello Vietnam, a well-established Vietnamese restaurant in Christchurch, is seeking a skilled and passionate cook to join our kitchen team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone experienced in authentic Vietnamese cuisine and who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, season and cook a range of authentic Vietnamese dishes, including soups, noodle dishes, rice dishes, stir-fries, deep-fried, grilled dishes, sauces, stocks and accompaniments.
Examine food and ingredients to ensure quality, freshness and suitability before preparation and cooking.
Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, marinating, portioning and organising them for service.
Operate cooking equipment such as woks, grills, fryers, steamers, ovens and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
Plate and present dishes according to restaurant standards before service.
Regulate cooking temperatures and monitor cooking times to ensure food is cooked properly and safely.
Prepare food for special dietary requirements where required, including adjusting ingredients while maintaining food quality.
Assist with planning menus and suggesting improvements to dishes, where appropriate.
Estimate food and ingredient requirements and monitor stock levels to support smooth kitchen operations.
Store food and ingredients correctly in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
Clean food preparation areas, cooking equipment, utensils and workstations to maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen.
Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house staff to ensure timely food preparation and service during busy periods.
Comply with all relevant food safety, hygiene, health and safety, and workplace procedures.
Job Pre-requisites:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Vietnamese kitchen AND/OR a Level 4 certificate or higher in cookery or related culinary training
Proficient in preparing a wide variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes
Ability to work under pressure and multitask
Good communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude
Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
