Wairau Park Tenpin Bowling is looking for two venue managers. Your working hours will be between 9:30am – 2am. This position requires working on weekends. You will be allocated either the morning or the evening shift and this arrangement can change in the future.

The Venue Manager is responsible for the comprehensive operational management of Wairau Park Tenpin Bowling. This role requires to oversee a diverse entertainment environment including bowling lanes, arcade systems, Pokie machines, pool, and a licensed beverage and food operation. The Venue Manager ensures the facility remains a safe, compliant, and profitable community hub.

You will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours/week and maximum 50.

Qualification/Work Experience

·         A successful candidate will have at least two - three years of relevant work experience in hospitality/management or similar OR a relevant diploma or higher qualification in hospitality/management or similar.

·         A valid NZ General Manager’s Cert and LCQ Certificate is required, or the applicant must be willing to obtain one.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Operations & Service Management

  • Hospitality Oversight: Plan and supervise all bar, food, and function services, ensuring high standards of food safety and customer service during peak hours and private events.
  • Activity Coordination: Plan, book, and supervise all sporting (bowling leagues), gaming, and entertainment activities (like group bookings/birthday parties etc) to maximize venue utilization.
  • Facility Maintenance: Supervise property maintenance and security arrangements to ensure the venue remains a safe and attractive environment for families and patrons.

 

2. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Regulatory Adherence: Strict observation and enforcement of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, Gambling Act 2003 (regarding pokie machines), and relevant health regulations.
  • Health & Safety: Act as the primary lead for ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, conducting regular risk assessments and maintaining incident registers.
  • Security: Manage security protocols and personnel to mitigate risks associated with alcohol consumption and cash handling for gaming operations.

3. Membership & Community Engagement

  • Member Relations: Manage and arrange member subscriptions; assess and review member satisfaction and preferences to drive retention.
  • Communications: Compile and organize the distribution of newsletters and promotional materials to keep members and the local Wairau community informed of forthcoming events and new facilities.
  • Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for community groups sponsored or assisted by the club, fostering local partnerships.

4. Human Resources & Leadership

  • Staff Lifecycle: Responsible for selecting, training, and supervising a diverse team of floor staff, technicians, and hospitality workers.
  • Performance Management: Foster a culture of excellence by providing ongoing coaching and ensuring all staff are trained in Host Responsibility and gaming compliance.

    ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE TECHNICIAN

You will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours/week and maximum 50.

Qualification/Work Experience

Solid mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.

Two or more years of relevant experience with arcade machines or AV systems, or similar equipment.



Key Responsibilities and Duties

This is a hands-on technical and maintenance role suited to a practical individual with strong problem-solving abilities. Full training will be provided for our bowling systems.

 

·         Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of bowling lanes and pinsetters

 

·         Repair and servicing of arcade machines and entertainment equipment

 

·         Set-up, testing and operation of audio systems for music nights and events

 

·         General venue maintenance, including mechanical, electrical and IT-related tasks

 

·         Monitoring equipment for safety, performance and reliability

 

·         Liaising with external suppliers for parts, upgrades and specialised servicing.

 

·         Competency in audio systems (mixers, amplifiers, speakers, microphones)

 

·         Practical hands-on approach with good diagnostic skills

 

·         Basic IT knowledge (networking, wiring, software updates)

 

·         Ability to manage tasks independently and prioritise effectively

 

·         Good communication and time-management skills
