Indigo Indian Restaurant is a well-established, reputable brand within Auckland, and we are looking for a talented THREE COOKS to assist us in enhancing our business.

Required for an Indian Restaurant Located at Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand. PAYRATE $26.00 to $28.00. The position is full-time and permanent with a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Indigo Indian Restaurant is currently seeking THREE COOKS to assist in enhancing the business.

This is a full-time role for a minimum of 30 hours a week and can be increased based on the workload. The pay rate will be between $26 and $28 an hour.


Required skills: The cook needs to be able to make traditional Indian hot food snacks such as Samosas, Kachori, Spring Rolls, Momos, Puff, Medu Wada, and Idlis.

Job duties:

  •  Being responsible for the kitchen workflow
  •  Preparation of Samosa, puff, kachori and other hot food items recipes and packaging
  • Managing all the hot food snacks and supervising the staff
  • Undertaking all stock ordering and stock level reports to the manager
  • Set up all the deliveries for routine customers
  • Training & managing the kitchen staff, including their work schedule.
  • Oversee the performance of kitchen staff on a day-to-day basis
  • Ensuring kitchen health and safety compliance.
  •  Always ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen
  • Other duties as required by the Manager
  •  Ensure inventory is maintained and that all ingredients are stocked in accordance with
  • Requirements as per the hot food snacks product are in place.
  • Ensure the stock is stored at the correct temperature and used according to the First in, first out method, especially for perishable goods.
  • Must be able to operate potato peeler Machine, commercial oven and prepare Samosa, kachori and snacks items
  • Coordinate with delivery staff and follow daily order list and prepare all items as per daily order list.
  • Ensure that all kitchen utensils, tools, and equipment are well maintained
  • Discuss with management regarding customer preferences and advise if required for changes to the hot food snacks in line with demand
  • Check and ensure the quality of ingredients is maintained
  • Implement new cooking techniques to enhance the customer experience
  • Meet with clients where required to discuss catering requirements for functions
  • Any other tasks involved in the management of the kitchen, as well as the preparation of Samosa and hot food items from the restaurant
  • Able to work and perform under pressure, especially during the busy season and catering period
  • Provide cost estimation for Food dishes where and when required (Especially when dishes are introduced)

What we are looking for:

  • Must hold 2-3 years of relevant work experience to work for the role of Cook.
  • However, a NZQA Level 2 or higher qualification can substitute for the work experience requirement. 
  • The selected candidate will receive detailed training.
  • Basic communication skills and basic knowledge of technology to operate the equipment.
  • Able to work independently and make decisions in the kitchen for the betterment of the business.
  • Pass random drug and alcohol tests (when required)
  • Clear criminal record
  • Have an excellent manner with people, especially team members.
  • Reliable and flexible to change.
  • Must be able to work across any shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Must be able to work in split shifts
  • Must be a fit, quick thinker, reliable, trustworthy, and self-motivated.
  • Able to lift weights up to 25kg
