Position Title: Restaurant Manager
Location: Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand
Employment Type: Full-time (Minimum 30 hours per week)
Salary: $30 – $35 per hour
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Restaurant Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of our restaurant. This role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and the ability to manage all aspects of restaurant performance, including staffing, customer service, financial control, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
The Restaurant Manager will be responsible for:
- Planning, organising and controlling the overall operations of the restaurant to ensure efficient and profitable service delivery
- Managing staff recruitment, training, supervision and performance, including front-of-house and service staff
- Developing and implementing customer service standards to maintain a high-quality dining experience
- Handling customer feedback and resolving complaints in a professional and timely manner
- Managing reservations, functions, and special events, ensuring smooth coordination and service delivery
- Monitoring stock levels and coordinating purchasing, including food, beverages, and operational supplies
- Controlling budgets and financial performance, including monitoring revenue, costs, and profitability
- Maintaining financial records, including sales, expenses, and stock usage
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations, including food safety standards
- Collaborating with chefs/kitchen staff to develop menus, pricing strategies, and promotional activities
- Implementing marketing and promotional initiatives to drive customer engagement and business growth
- Ensuring compliance with licensing laws, including alcohol service requirements
Requirements
- Relevant qualification in hospitality management or business OR at least 3 years of relevant work experience in restaurant management
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Proven ability to manage restaurant operations and financial performance
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Knowledge of food safety, health regulations, and licensing requirements
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays
- A current Manager’s Certificate (or ability to obtain one) is preferred
