We are a busy bakery café located in Hastings, Hawke's Bay, currently seeking one full time
bakers. This is a great opportunity for someone with at least 2 years of professional baking
experience or relevant qualifications to showcase their skills.


To be successful in the role you will have experience baking bread, pies, pastries, desserts, and cakes. You should also be able to make your pastry and fillings on your own without
supervision.

Our bakery opens 6 days a week, and you would expect to work between 3am to 3pm. The
expected work week is minimum 30 hours to maximum 40 hours a week depending on roster.

Hourly rate, dependent on skills level and experience, is in the range of $25-$35 per hour.

You will be working unsupervised, and we therefore need someone who has experience
working on their own for a bakery or similar establishment.
As a baker your responsibilities include:

  • Inspect and clean all bakery equipment and machinery before and after production,
    ensuring compliance with food safety and occupational health regulations.
  • Check the quality of raw materials and ingredients, accurately weighing and measuring to meet recipe and production requirements.
  • Mix, knead, mould, cut, and shape doughs and pastry products using both manual
    methods and machinery.
  • Prepare and manage pastry fillings and production processes independently to ensure
    consistency and quality.
  • Monitor and regulate oven temperatures, bake products in batches, and ensure correct baking times for optimal results.
  • Apply decorative finishes including icing, glazes, and cream to cakes, pastries, buns, and other baked goods.
  • Operate and maintain baking machinery such as dough rollers, moulders, and biscuit
    cutters.
  • Manage ingredient inventory by monitoring freshness, rotating stock, and maintaining
    appropriate levels for production demand.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following strict food hygiene standards, cleaning equipment, greasing trays, and ensuring tools are properly stored.
  • Perform basic machinery maintenance and ensure all tools and equipment are in safe
    working condition.
  • Take responsibility for opening the bakery café sometimes.

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • While we prefer someone with 3 years of work experience, we also consider applicant
    with at least 2years of relevant work experience in a commercial bakery, bakery school, café, restaurant, hotel, or similar establishment or
  • A relevant Level 4 qualification
