Chef – Full Time CK Mid North Trading Ltd, Dargaville, Northland
Due to business growth and increasing demand for dine-in, takeaway, delivery, and catering services, CK Mid North Trading Ltd in Dargaville, Northland is seeking a fulltime Chef to join our dynamic team. We specialise in Japanese cuisine with Korean flavours blended in, and offer an excellent environment to grow your career in hospitality. Our menu features a wide range of dishes—fresh sushi, bento boxes, donburi rice bowls, tempura, noodles, and more—crafted daily using fresh, quality ingredients.
This role is central to our expansion plans. As we grow beyond dine-in into takeaway, delivery, and catering, we need an experienced Chef to help develop new menu items suited to these formats, build out our catering capability, and maintain the consistency and quality of our dishes across all channels.
- Minimum Guaranteed Hours: At least 30 hours weekly, up to 48 hours
- Location: Dargaville, Northland
- Remuneration: Negotiable for the right candidate, between $28.00–$33.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications
Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Developing and expanding the menu to support new takeaway, delivery, and catering offerings
- Planning menus and developing seasonal and specialty Japanese dishes
- Preparing ingredients and crafting sushi, sashimi, tempura, and other traditional dishes
- Ensuring dishes are prepared following traditional Japanese techniques and recipes
- Ordering food supplies and managing stock control to support increased volume across all service channels
- Estimating and advising on food costs and pricing, including for new catering and delivery items
- Monitoring quality from food preparation to final presentation
- Training and mentoring new kitchen staff as the team grows
- Managing portions, controlling and maintaining food quality
- Collaborating with kitchen staff on preparation issues and managing the team
Applicants for this role should have:
- Relevant work experience (at least 2 years), or a diploma in cookery
- A professional, "can-do" attitude
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities in a busy kitchen
- Strong communication skills and proven leadership abilities to manage staff
- A solid understanding of health and safety practices
- Background in Japanese or Korean cuisine is an advantage
