About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Cafe Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy café. This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the business, delivering outstanding customer service, leading and supporting staff, maintaining food safety and operational standards, and contributing to the café's ongoing growth and profitability. This is a full-time permanent position with a guaranteed hour of at least 30 hours (or more) per week. Hours of work will be at least 6 to 8 hours a day between 7:30am to 3pm. The pay rate will be between NZD $29 - $35 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily cafe operations to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels, ensuring timely purchasing of supplies and stock rotation.
- Ensure the cafe environment is clean, safe, and compliant with all food safety and health regulations.
- Plan and develop menus in consultation with the chef, ensuring variety, quality, and cost-efficiency.
- Review and set menu pricing in alignment with budgeting and profitability targets.
- Regularly assess customer feedback on menu items and service to inform menu updates and service improvements.
- Recruit, train, roster, and supervise front-of-house and kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.
- Monitor staff performance, provide ongoing training and support, and ensure adherence to workplace standards and policies.
- Engage with customers to ensure a positive dining experience and address any concerns promptly.
- Complete weekly payroll processing and generate pay slips for employees in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform daily reconciliation of sales and cash, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.
- Prepare and submit monthly GST returns in accordance with New Zealand tax regulations.
- Assist with the preparation of the cafe annual financial returns.
- Maintain comprehensive records of financial transactions, inventory, and staff hours.
Required qualifications and skills
- A relevant tertiary degree qualification
- At least six months’ relevant work experience
- Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to supervise staff and manage daily café operations.
- Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and team members.
- Sound knowledge of food safety, health and safety requirements, and basic business administration, including stock control and financial record-keeping.
