Job Description:
AD Hospitality Limited trading as Novelty Sweets & Restaurant is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of our pure vegetarian restaurant. The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Restaurant Manager to ensure smooth business operations, high customer service standards, efficient staff coordination, and compliance with food safety and workplace requirements.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supervising staff, supporting kitchen and front-of-house operations, managing customer service, and assisting with daily business administration tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Restaurant Manager in the overall daily operations of the restaurant.
- Supervising kitchen and front-of-house staff during service periods.
- Assisting in planning and organising daily workflows to ensure smooth service.
- Allocating duties to staff and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
- Monitoring staff performance and providing on-the-job support and guidance.
- Ensuring high standards of customer service and handling customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
- Supporting preparation and service of pure vegetarian Indian food, sweets, snacks, and beverages.
- Monitoring food quality, presentation, and consistency of menu items.
- Ensuring compliance with New Zealand food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
- Conducting regular checks of kitchen, service, and dining areas to maintain cleanliness and standards.
- Assisting with stock control, inventory management, and reporting shortages.
- Supporting ordering of supplies and ensuring proper storage and stock rotation (FIFO method).
- Assisting with cash handling, EFTPOS transactions, and daily sales reconciliation.
- Supporting staff training, onboarding, and development.
- Assisting in rostering and shift coordination when required.
- Identifying operational issues and reporting them to management for resolution.
- Ensuring workplace health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Supporting promotional activities and customer engagement initiatives.
Skills, Qualification & Experience:
- Diploma (Level 4 or above) OR
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in hospitality, restaurant, or takeaway operations.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or assistant management role preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene, and customer service standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
