Roster: The restaurant operates seven days a week. Applicants must be available to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
Pay Rate: NZD $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
About the Role
HMT 26 Limited is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join the team at The District – Restaurant & Bar. The successful applicant will prepare high-quality meals while maintaining food safety, hygiene and consistency in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present a variety of restaurant meals in accordance with recipes and business standards.
- Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, marinating, seasoning and portioning food.
- Cook food using a variety of methods including grilling, frying, roasting, steaming and baking.
- Ensure food is presented to a consistently high standard with appropriate portion control.
- Assist in menu planning and the development of new dishes.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food supplies.
- Rotate stock and minimise food wastage.
- Ensure compliance with the Food Control Plan and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas.
- Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience
OR
- NZ Register Level 4 or higher qualification in Cookery or a closely related field.
Applicants must also have:
- Good knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and food safety practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
