Roster: The restaurant operates seven days a week. Applicants must be available to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
Pay Rate: NZD $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

About the Role

HMT 26 Limited is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join the team at The District – Restaurant & Bar. The successful applicant will prepare high-quality meals while maintaining food safety, hygiene and consistency in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook and present a variety of restaurant meals in accordance with recipes and business standards.
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, marinating, seasoning and portioning food.
  • Cook food using a variety of methods including grilling, frying, roasting, steaming and baking.
  • Ensure food is presented to a consistently high standard with appropriate portion control.
  • Assist in menu planning and the development of new dishes.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food supplies.
  • Rotate stock and minimise food wastage.
  • Ensure compliance with the Food Control Plan and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas.
  • Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to ensure timely and efficient service.
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience

OR

  • NZ Register Level 4 or higher qualification in Cookery or a closely related field.

Applicants must also have:

  • Good knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and food safety practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
